Did the $125 tasting menu. Food was good and the portion size is definitely enough to make you full. Service was phenomenal. The courses were paced well, they always took away our plates promptly and gave us our next course. The housemade soy sauces were really good too. Definitely recommend for a date night or special occasion.
Fish
For our group of five, we started with Crudo ($28), Wagyu Carpaccio ($29), and Lobster Miso Soup ($8). For the main course, we opted for the Sashimi platter with 42 pieces ($155), Ebi Oshizushi ($19), Wagyu Oshizushi ($26), Jabistroll ($24), and Aburicious ($29), along with a few à la carte sushi options: Chu-Toro ($22), Hotate ($14), and Uni ($34). To finish off, we shared two panna cottas ($15). Overall, I really enjoyed the meal; the food was fresh, and the service was very attentive.

Beautiful ambiance, outstanding nigiri, and some of the best aburi in Toronto. I came to Ja Bistro for dinner and missed the tasting menu by a few minutes, so I went with the Nama (seven-piece classic nigiri), the Aburi assortment, and the lobster miso soup. Even though the soup only had one small lobster piece, the broth was incredibly rich and flavourful — a really comforting start. The Nama nigiri was easily the highlight of the night. Each piece was visually stunning (see photos) and had a distinct, clean flavour that really showcased the freshness of the fish. The aburi set added great contrast — warm, lightly torched, with beautifully layered textures and toppings. You can see in the photos how perfectly seared each piece is. I’ll admit, the portion sizes looked modest at first, but the whole meal ended up being very satisfying. It’s definitely pricier than the typical sushi spots I visit, but the quality, execution, and presentation make it 100% worth it for a sushi night out. The ambiance is exactly what I love about Ja Bistro — cozy, romantic, and softly lit, with warm wood accents and a clean minimalist design. The soft music in the background made the whole experience feel calm and relaxed. The interior photos I posted show the warm lighting and elegant counter setup. Service was great: I was seated right away, my server came over immediately, and all the food arrived quickly — which I appreciated because I came in absolutely starving. Overall, Ja Bistro remains a top pick for elevated sushi in Toronto. I’d come back just for the Nama alone. Highly recommended.

I made a last minute reservation for 7:30pm at the sushi counter during TIFF. They had a special drink menu for TIFF. The service was spectacular. The food was amazing. I highly recommend this place if you enjoy Japanese cuisine.

JaBistro was the first ever set menu I got at a restaurant after I graduated university with my own money. I remember, at the time, the miso marinated black cod was the best dish I had ever eaten in my entire life. That was 8 years ago. Coming back now, after having eaten a ton of amazing food, that cod still lives up to my memory of it and ranks among some of the best food I've ever had.
