I've been taking classes at Left Coast for several years and this review is very overdue. I was not a confident yogi when I started. Left Coast has been the perfect place for me to grow, and because it's such a welcoming space, it's become an important part of my weekly routine. I love that the teachers all have different styles - there's something for everyone. I see both teachers and students of different races, body types, genders, and ages. I've become a big fan of heated yoga, but some of the classes are less hot, if that's not your thing. I appreciate that Rachel organizes community-building events, in addition to the regular class schedule. It's a pretty affordable studio, especially for the Bay Area, and there often seem to be discounted or sliding-scale class options - and I've also heard that the teachers are fairly compensated and offered benefits. Great vibes all around, I'm so glad Left Coast exists.
When I moved from SF to Oakland 2 1/2 years ago, I scoped out Left Coast Power Yoga because the Laurel location is so close to my house, and I feel so fortunate to have found it. There is a wonderful variety of teachers, all who love yoga and take a deep interest in their students. They have created an incredible yoga community where everyone can be themselves and get exactly what they need out of class, whether making poses more challenging, or listening to their bodies if they need a break. I think the Laurel studio is beautiful, homey, and the right size for classes. Teachers heat it in different ways, but generally it is the perfect warm temp. Logistically, there is plenty of free parking on the nearby side streets, which makes it a stress-free experience arriving to class. Shoutout to amazing teachers Rose and Tako...I take their classes almost every week, and they teach challenging and thoughtful flows.
I've been practicing yoga for many years now, and I can confidently say the Left Coast Power Yoga Laurel location is one of the best studios in the area. One of the reasons that sets it apart is Rachel's (owner and instructor) genuine commitment to the community. She’s created a welcoming, supportive space that feels inclusive, not just transactional. The variety of class offerings is excellent. Whether you're looking for Vinyasa, a restorative flow, or something else, you'll find it here. As a life-busy person, I appreciate the different levels and schedules. Beyond the regular yoga and Pilates classes, the studio actively fosters connection through community events and yoga retreats. They also offer a teacher training program that consistently receives excellent feedback, further confirming the quality of instruction and the studio’s standards. If you're looking for a place with high-quality classes and a great vibe, then this is it. Come check it out.
I have been going to Left Coast Power Yoga - Laurel for the past couple of months and enjoying the variety of classes. I appreciate how several of the instructors ask for input on what the class prefers to work on that day and incorporates appropriate moves into the flow. So far my favorite classes have been led by Tako and Heather. The 10 pack works well for me as I live elsewhere and it’s nice to have an option besides monthly membership.
I joined Left Coast in January 2025 and have been fully committed since! What I love most is that Left Coast truly welcomes all levels of practice. The instructors are dedicated to creating a space where you can feel your best — offering thoughtful guidance without pressure to follow mandatory moves. There’s so much patience and freedom to explore, allowing you to tailor your practice to your body’s needs. Beyond the mat, there’s a strong sense of community. The team regularly hosts events that deepen the practice and celebrate cultural explorations — it really feels like a home for both growth and connection. Big shoutout to Dana, a legendary instructor with incredible alignment knowledge and body awareness; Taku, whose playful yet intentional flow and excellent playlists make every class a joy; and Rachel, who brings scientific precision and deep anatomical knowledge to every pose. Honestly, you can’t go wrong with any of the teachers — each brings something special. Oh, and the $85 first-month unlimited pass? Such a sweet deal to dive right in.
