This museum features an great collection of art and archaeological objects from all continents. I particularly enjoyed the Monet collection (an entire room dedicated to several of his works) and Egyptian history section. A Harvard professor was an early pioneer in Egyptian archaeology, and much of the material from those excavations is now housed in this museum. Admission is free for MIT employees/ students, and if you have a Boston Public Library card you can reserve a voucher in advance that reduces the admission price to $10, making this museum even more accessible!
Definitely one of the best fine arts museums we’ve visited. It’s full of rich and vibrant history for all your interests. Music, US history, greece, contemporary… (that is to name a few). I highly recommend a quiet weekday and the audio tour to elevate your experience and walk away with a deeper understanding of what you came to see.
Excellent general art museum. The impressionist collect is wonderful, there is a whole room of Monet's. They also have one of the best paintings of Gauging, which is also quite big and excellent, definitely don't miss that. Some good van Gogh's as well. The collection of American painting is excellent. I would like to also point you to the Egyptian and Mexican rooms. Harvard and MFA have conducted joint archeological digs for several decades at the pyramids in Giza, and the quality of the Egyptian sculptures is superb. I was also impressed by the quality of the Mesoamerican collection - another part definitely not to be missed. If you push it you can get a first look of the museum in 3-4 hours. If you focus on highlights about 2-2.5 hours should be OK. One hour would probably be too short, in that case either skip or only look at the impressionists and nearby rooms (or Egypt and Mexico only).
A fantastic museum with a great variety of exhibits. We only got to see about 1/3 of the displays, so definitely should’ve left more time. The Americas section had lots of interesting pieces and the Jewish art room was really interesting. We were able to get tickets there with no issues, but you can also reserve them online.
