Ranger Recommendations Remember that you are fishing in bear country. Bears have the right to prime fishing sites, as fish are a critical food source for them. Give bears plenty of time and room to fish. Make sure you know about the park's food (including harvested fish) storage requirements before you go. Come prepared for unpredictable and often severe weather.

Tanalian Falls is a 3 mile hike from the trailhead in Port Alsworth. The trail is wide as it follows up a steep gravel road to the park boundary. There are planked sections of boardwalk along the way and a steep descent to the Lower Falls, where the river bank is. The trail can be narrow, rocky, and muddy. It takes most hikers 1 hour to 1.5 hours to get to the Falls.
Yes — Pets are allowed in the park and preserve. However, because Lake Clark is excellent bear and moose habitat it is highly encouraged that you leave your pets at home. All pets must be leashed.
