Strentzel/Muir Gravesite Tour

John Muir National Historic Site

The Muir/Strentzel gravesite is not located on the main property of the John Muir National Historic Site.

The Muir/Strentzel Family Gravesite Tour Join a Ranger for a 1 hour tour of the final resting place of John Muir. Learn about Muir’s burial and the family members that are buried here with him as you stroll amongst the heritage trees that are nestled around the small 1.25 acre site. Tours meet at the John Muir NHS Visitor Center every Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday at 3:00pm. Reservations are required as there are limited seats! Some same–day reservations may be available. Call (925)228-8860 x0. Note: There is uneven ground at the site, and no amenities, so please wear comfortable shoes and bring water. Conditions can get muddy and heavy rain will cancel the tour.

Pets

Yes — Guidelines Pets are allowed on the grounds of the John Muir NHS as long as they are on leash and under the owners control. Please be aware that pets are not allowed in the Historic Muir Home or Martinez Adobe unless they are Service Animals*. Note: Please contact the park site about pets being brought on the gravesite tour. Shuttle buses may not be able to accomodate pets, untless they are a service animal. Please remember to pick up after your pet. *The ADA defines a service animal as any guide dog, signal dog, or other animal individually trained to provide assistance to an individual with a disability. If they meet this definition, animals are considered service animals under the ADA regardless of whether they have been licensed or certified by a state or local government.
