Cross-country skiing is a fun way for people of all ages to experience winter in Rocky. There is typically enough snow for skiing beginning in December and it lasts into April. There are no groomed or marked ski trails inside the park, but visitors often create and maintain ski trails at popular trailheads. Consider visiting the west side of the park to enjoy a variety terrain great for cross-country skiing. Stop by one of the park's visitor centers for information on suggested routes. Most ski routes go through uneven terrain of mixed conifer forests at elevations of 8,700 - 9,700 ft. For your comfort and safety, it is recommended to wear warm clothing for skiing. Don't have your own skis? Rentals are available at locations outside of Rocky Mountain National Park. There are no rental shops inside the park.
