Drive the Saturiwa Trail
Timucuan Ecological & Historic Preserve
Take a drive through 6,000 years of history on Fort George Island.
Driving the scenic loop road of Fort George Island takes visitors through natural beauty and historic landscapes. This downloadable audio tour found here begins at the Florida Park Service's Ribault Club and leads all around the islands main road. There are 23 stops along this audio tour marked with small numbered brown signs. Use caution during heavy rain events or high tides as a portion of the island road may flood. This tour, named for a Timucua speaking tribal leader of Fort George Island, highlights architecture, natural vistas, habitats, and history. The short drive is ideal for visitors hoping to see the park but escape the heat. Wildlife and blooming plants change through the seasons so visit in the spring for flowers and fireflies, the summer for peak colors, the fall for the least traffic, or the winter to enjoy a cruise with the windows down. Drive with caution as wildlife surrounds this road and Gopher Tortoise crossings are marked in high (animal) traffic areas. Please respect the privacy of the private home owners located along this road.
