Walk Down Broad Street

Fort Frederica National Monument

Take a stroll down the historic Broad Street at Frederica and leard about who used to live in the town and what it took to survive in the 1740's on the Georgia coast.

Broad street was the main thoroughfare through the town of Frederica. Homes lined the street as it led to the fort at Frederica. Today, all that remain of the homes are foundations and the street is a grass covered path. Over the years fire and scavengers have removed the above-ground materials from the homes. Archeologists have uncovered several of the foundations of these homes. Exhibit panels along the street allow the visitor to reflect on who used to live at Frederica and what their job was. It is a ¼ mile walk to what remains for Fort Frederica. Take some time to read about who once lived in the town before reaching the river.
