Find Flowers and Butterflies in Lucy's Garden

New Philadelphia National Historic Site

New Philadelphia buzzes to life in Lucy’s Butterfly Garden! The wildflowers in this garden represent the types of plants that greeted the McWorters when they arrived. Today, bright flowers greet many native butterflies, moths, and bees.

New Philadelphia buzzes to life in Lucy’s Butterfly Garden! Visit Lucy’s Butterfly Garden, located 20 feet east of the Information Kiosk. It is named for Lucy McWorter, who helped her husband Free Frank establish New Philadelphia. The native plants in this garden were carefully chosen by the New Philadelphia Association. They represent the types of plants that greeted the McWorters when they arrived. The garden’s wildflowers come alive in Spring and bloom through Fall. Wildflowers feed many native pollinators. That makes it a great place to find butterflies and bees! The garden also offers rich sensory experiences. You can experience bright colors, floral scents, a variety of leaf textures, and the buzzing of pollinators hard at work! Want to bring the experience home? You can! A USDA marker provides directions to start your own pollinator garden at home.
