Washington’s Headquarters and the Memory of the American Revolution On exhibit May to October 2025 In July 1775, this house became the center of the emergent revolution when George Washington arrived in Cambridge and used the mansion as his residence and official Headquarters. The significance of the events and figures tied to the house during the Revolution resonated beyond its time, inspiring poets, historians, and preservationists to commemorate its place in American history. This temporary exhibit marks the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution and the house’s use as Headquarters. It features items tangibly connected to Washington’s era and objects that illustrate the shaping of the national narrative of the Revolution in the late 1800s and early 1900s, which influence our understanding of the revolutionary era today.
