"The industrious Puritans used iron in farming and for cooking, it was traded with Native Americans and other colonies, it held together their fishing boats and houses, and indeed, their entire economy...[In order for them to become] self-sufficient and independent, the Puritans set out on a quest to build an ironworks on the Saugus River."
