Battle of Baltimore
Fort McHenry National Monument and Historic Shrine
This 45–60-minute, ranger-led walk guides visitors from the Chesapeake Map to the Historic Star Fort. Along the way, visitors will hear about how the fort withstood a 25-hour storm of rockets and exploding shells, blocking the British fleet from entering Baltimore Harbor. This defiant stand, witnessed by lawyer Francis Scott Key, inspired the verses that became “The Star-Spangled Banner".
Join rangers for a program about one of the most pivotal battles of the War of 1812. The Battle of Baltimore covers the British attack on the city, an American defense that held against all odds, and the 25 hour bombardment of Fort McHenry that inspired Francis Scott Key to write the Star-Spangled Banner. Join rangers for this daily 45 minute program.
