Baltimore City boasts over 260 species of birds that frequent the area both year round and seasonally. Although famous for the eponymous state bird, the Baltimore Oriole, the city and Fort McHenry are frequented by a great variety of bird species. Most often visible in the park are Canada Geese, but also several species of ducks which can be seen year round. Impressive birds of prey frequent Fort McHenry's waterfront in search of food. Osprey are known to regularly fly overhead with fish in their talons, and hawks often perch in trees to eat their latest catch. Visitors might even be lucky enough to spot the American Bald Eagle flying over the fort in view of the large American flags blowing in the wind. Visitors interested in birding are encouraged to bring binoculars and enjoy the spectacular views of the many birds in the park from a safe distance!

Many paved paths allow for easy access throughout the park. Benches are frequent so visitors can sit and relax while looking for birds!
Yes — Pets are allowed in areas of the park that are not the buildings or historic zones. Makes sure that pets are kept on a 6 foot leash in control of their owner, and away from wildlife.
