Hike The Thomas Farm Trail
Monocacy National Battlefield
Take a hike at Thomas Farm! Two trails at the Thomas Farm provide options for exploring.
The Thomas Farm Loop and Middle Ford Ferry Loop trails at the Thomas Farm offer a chance to immerse yourself in the woods without being too far from civilization. The Thomas Farm Loop Trail is 1.75 miles long and a easy/moderate hike. The trail follows an old farm lane before entering into a wooded area and then emerging along an active agrgircultural field. The trail provides scenic vistas of the Worthington and Thomas farms. The Middle Ford Ferry Loop connects to the Thomas Farm Loop Trail and adds a half-mile to the loop. This trail leads down to the Monocacy River to the site of the ferry that operated in the 18th and early 19th century until the bridge over the Monocacy was constructed in the 1830s.

The two hiking trails on the Thomas Farm vary in width and experience changes in elevation. The trails follow a gravel farm lane, eventually entering wooded areas where tree roots are sometimes exposed. Animals occasionally create burrows along the trails that can create tripping hazards. Once leaving the farm lane, the trails become dirt paths.
