Bicycle Smallwood State Park to Oxon Cove Park

Oxon Cove Park & Oxon Hill Farm

The on-road bicycling route between Smallwood State Park and Oxon Cove Park makes connections with parks and historic sites.

This ride is part of the Southern Maryland PHT On-Road Bicycling Route and a multi-day tidal Potomac tour mapped by Adventure Cycling Association. Trip length is approximately 44 miles from Smallwood State Park to Oxon Cove Park with stops at Fort Washington Park; The Accokeek Foundation at Piscataway Park, which includes the National Colonial Farm (where you can also take a short hike north to Mockley Point); Fort Foote Park; and Broad Creek Historic District, all of which provide access to the River. A campground and rustic cabins are available at Smallwood, and hotels near Oxon Cove, as well as in Indian Head. Seasonally, check for kayak rentals in Indian Head and at National Harbor. And it's a short ride--with suberb views to the north--over the Woodrow Wilson Bridge to Alexandria and the Mount Vernon Trail.
