Bike the 11 miles IAT-Wassataquoik Stream Loop at the southern section of Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument.

Distance: 11 mi /17.7 km Difficulty: Difficult The IAT-Wassataquoik Stream Loop can begin at either the Barnard Mountain TH (Katahdin Loop Road Mile 11.8) or at the Wassataquoik TH (located at the end of Wassataquoik Stream Road. This loop has an elevation gain of 719ft, loose gravel, and rocks throughout the path. A mountain bike is recommended! Please note that the portions along Wassataquoik Stream Road and the Katahdin Loop Road are open to motor vehicle traffic. The loop is a multi-use trail overlapping with the International Appalachian Trail – look out for hikers! Detours To Beautiful Views Barnard Mountain Trail Additional distance: 1.2 mi/1.9 km Leave your bike at the Barnard Mountain/IAT sign and hike an additional 1.2 miles round trip up to the top of Barnard Mountain for excellent views of Katahdin Lake and Mountain! Bikes are NOT permitted on this trail. Orin Falls Additional distance: 3 mi/4.8 km Connect with the Wassataquoik Stream Road onto Orin Falls Trail for a short ride towards the NW direction out to Orin Falls. This add an additional 3 miles to the route. Leave your bike at the Orin Falls TH sign and walk the short trail that brings you to enjoy the beautiful falls.

The roads and trail surfaces at Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument are not paved. The surface is made of rocks, dirt, and gravel and is often muddy, uneven, and hilly. This route is not recommended for people with limited vision, limited mobility, or slow reaction times. The current ebike policy for the park is listed in the Superintendent’s Compendium.
