Bike to Haskell Rock Pitch

Distance: 4 mi/6.4 km Difficulty: Moderate / Intermediate To get to Haskell Rock Pitch, take a 4 mile out-and-back trail starting at Haskell Gate on the New River Road. It is recommended to use a mountain bike. There is a slight elevation gain of 110ft as you bike past several points of interest along the East Branch of the Penobscot River; including Stair Falls ( make sure to add an additional 1.2 miles round trip on this spur trail), Haskell Hut, Haskell Deadwater, and Haskell Rock Pitch. The trail continues downriver towards Grand Pitch. Reminder, do not take bikes down the portage trails. Hazards such as deep mud, rocks, loose gravel, potholes, and downed trees can make this trip technical and challenging. This route is shared with hikers on the International Appalachian Trail. Show your respect when passing hikers by slowing to a walking pace or even stopping. Anticipate other trail users around corners or in blind spots. Yielding means slow down, establish communication, be prepared to stop if necessary and pass safely.
