About this Trail Mileage: About 10.3 miles Overgrown vegetation near trail Rocks and roots on trail Trailheads Windigo Rock Harbor via Greenstone Ridge Trail This is the longest trail section a part of the Feldtmann Loop. Make sure to start your hike early and bring plenty of water. There is no water source easily accessible from this trail. The ascent to the top of Feldtmann Ridge is steep and rewarding. The top of the ridge offers views of Feldtmann Lake, Grace Harbor, and Rock of Ages Lighthouse on a clear day. The trail passes through patches of forest and then begins to climb to the Feldtmann Fire Tower. This tower roughly marks the halfway point of this trail section and is a great spot for a break with scenic views. Just past the tower are remnants from the original fire tower. The remainder of the trail rides the Feldtmann Ridge and then descends gently downward towards Siskiwit Bay. This section follows an old logging road. The road is now filled with dense vegetation and at times it may feel like you are swimming through tall grass. The trail enters a clearing just before the Siskiwit Campground. This clearing was the site for the logging camp responsible for the logging road. This logging camp was later used as a Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) camp after the fire of 1936. Just past the clearing is Siskiwit Bay Campground that includes two shelters and a dock, making this campground popular with backpackers and boaters alike. Don't Miss Rainbow Cove Rainbow Cove is located about 0.8 miles from the Feldtmann Lake Campground. Set up camp at the campground and take a short hike to Rainbow Cove. This cove includes a rocky Lake Superior Shoreline, scenic sunset watching, and a view of the Rock of Ages Lighthouse on a clear day.
