Become a Vicksburg BARK Ranger
Vicksburg National Military Park
Learn how your pet can become a BARK Ranger!
At Vicksburg National Military Park visitors are welcome to take their dogs with them while exploring the park grounds, as long as they follow the BARK Ranger rules: B is for Bag your pet's waste. Always bring bags and dispose of waste in garbage cans. Never leave waste in the park A is for Always use a leash. Keeping your dog on a leash helps protect them and others. Be sure this leash is not longer than 6 ft long. R is for Respect wildlife. Keep an eye out for snakes, fire ants, and stinging insects. Remember to admire from a distance and not disturb them. K is for Know where you can go. While pets are welcome outside, only service animals are allowed inside the Visitor Center and USS Cairo Museum. Bonus tip: Plan for the heat! If you're hot, they're hot! Be sure to bring enough water for both you and your pet. And remember, sidewalks can be hot, so test the pavement with the back of your hand to see if it's too hot for your pet's paws. Pick up a BARK Ranger dog tag at the Visitor Center.
