Planning a visit to Scotts Bluff National Monument? Learn about emigrant trail history, geology, and the flora and fauna of the monument by attending a ranger program! During the summer season (Memorial Day to Labor Day), rangers offer a variety of programs throughout the course of the day. Ask at the Visitor Center to find out what programs will be conducted during your visit. Summer Programs Bluffs Banter Join a park ranger on the lawn of the visitor center for a short talk about some of the resources found in the monument. Talks might be about geology, how people have used the plants found in the monument, the Civilian Conservation Corps and their work at the monument, or other topics. In the case of inclement weather, the Bluffs Banter Program will move inside the visitor center. Check the online calendar see if this program will be offered the day of your visit. The Emigrant Experience Join a park ranger at the wagons along the Oregon Trail Pathway for a short talk about what life was like for those who traveled past Scotts Bluff on their ways to Oregon, California, or the Salt Lake Valley of Utah. The ranger will likely be dressed in the typical dress of an 1850s emigrant and talk about what the journey was like for travelers of all ages, including children. Rangers will be stationed on the trail on select days, weather permitting. Check the online calendar to ensure this program will be offered the day of your visit. Evening Programs Join a park ranger or special guest for a evening program originating at the outdoor amphitheater on select evenings from late May through mid-August. Most programs will take place on either Tuesdays or Fridays and will begin at 7 p.m., however, check the online calendar to see what is happening and when.
