Snowshoe and Cross-country Ski on the McDade Trail
Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area
Snowshoeing and cross-country skiing on the McDade Recreational Trail.
Once snow collects over the Pocono Mountains, the trails become ideal for winter activities. The McDade Recreational Trail (MRT) is a 37-mile-long multiuse, all-season trail with varying difficulty levels. These elements make it a wonderful trail for anyone. In the summer, walkers and bikers enjoy the wide, packed-gravel trail shaded by a canopy of trees. However, the winter hosts a different set of activities. Snowshoeing and cross-country skiing along the MRT is perfect for beginners, as there are many sections, especially between Smithfield Beach and Riverview accesses, that are relatively flat and easy to manuver. For those looking for more of a challenge, beginning at Turn Farm and heading north on the MRT towards Park Headquarters will provide beautiful views of the river and some hills to get your blood pumping. Check out the McDade Recreational Trail - Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area (U.S. National Park Service) (nps.gov) page to plan your winter adventures.
