Get the B. Free Franklin Cancellation

Independence National Historical Park

Get the same cancellation on your stamp that Franklin used when he was postmaster. There's cool and then there's "B. Free Franklin" cool.

Imagine sending a postcard to a loved one (or maybe even yourself?) bearing the postal cancellation that Benjamin Franklin used when he was postmaster back in the 1700s: "B. Free Franklin." Need this? It's simple: Get a postcard or envelope before you go to the B. Free Franklin Post Office. Attach an official U.S.P.S. postage stamp to your postcard/envelope. Don't have a stamp? No worries, you can purchase one at the B. Free Franklin Post Office. Hand your stamped postcard/envelope to the mail clerk in the B. Free Franklin Post Office. Appointed postmaster of Philadelphia in 1737, Franklin later became co-Postmaster General (of the North American colonies) for the British (1757-1774). From 1775-1776, Franklin served as Postmaster General under the authority of the Continental Congress. Learn more postal history in the small displays located in the B. Free Franklin Post Office. The B. Free Franklin Post Office branch is a limited services branch of the United States Postal Service. This branch does not handle packages.
