Take a hike along one of the trails or explore the Historic Area for the best chance of seeing some of the amazing wildlife that calls the Black Hills home.

Make sure to bring your camera or binoculars. The animals at the monument are wild and startle easily. Keep your distance and use the zoom on your camera or your binoculars to get a closer look without disturbing the wildlife.

Accessibility

The trails are rated as easy to moderate, but are not wheelchair accessible. At the Historic Area, there is a 4 foot wide steep gravel path to the Historic Cabin and 50 stone stairs with a railing leading down to the Historic Entrance to Jewel Cave. While pets are prohibited on all trails, service animals are welcome to accompany their handlers along the trails and within the Visitor Center.
