Ebey's Reserve - Fort Casey & Admiralty Head Lighthouse

Built in the late 1800's, Fort Casey was constructed with the sole purpose of protecting the shipping lanes of Admiralty Inlet. By World War I, the fort was a hub of activity with eager young soldiers and officers preparing for the Great War. The fort was shuttered following WWI, but was re-activated as the US approached World War II as part of the Coast Artillary to protect the entrance to Puget Sound and its shipyards. The fort houses a pair of 10-inch disappearing guns and two additional 3-inch mounted guns are also on display in their original emplacements. Bring a flashlight to explore the rooms beneath the Big Guns. Located within the park is Admiralty Head Lighthouse, a 30-foot tall brick and stucco building designed by Carl Leick and completed in 1903. This replaced the original wood lighthouse built in 1861. Admiralty Head Lighthouse was deactivated in 1922, but is open to the public with exhibits. There's plenty of space to picnic or to take advantage of the Whidbey winds and fly a kite on the wide-open parade grounds in front of the fort. Want to stay longer? The campground is open year-round with great views of Admiralty Inlet. Visitors will need a Discover Pass, which are available at the park office.
