Great place to meditate on Sunday mornings. The new building is beautiful and the people are wonderful. The Dharma talks are great and if you miss them, they are recorded and you can watch them on Facebook, YouTube, or listen to them on Apple Podcasts. They also offer Buddhism and meditation lessons for beginners as part of their Sunday line-up. It’s great to have this group as part of our community in Columbus!
As a complete newcomer to Buddhist practice I naturally was a little apprehensive about being a newcomer. The information posted on the website walked me through every step of what to expect upon first visit which gave me the confidence to attend the “Intro to Meditation” class that’s held on Sundays. The greeters were so very warm and welcoming and there was no confusion as to where I was to go. The teacher for the class was so kind and approachable as well as very open to all questions and viewpoints. Looking forward to attending again this Sunday!
Not only was this our first trip to Columbus, Ohio, but also to a temple. We are also newer to meditation and visited KTC on a Sunday morning. The website was very reassuring on what to expect and also true to the experience. The greeters at the door were welcoming and helpful during our entrance with directions. The Shine Room was a beautiful to experience and if I'm ever back in Columbus, I'll visit again. The Sunday live-steam will be in my plans for next weekend. Thank you, KTC!
I visited the Columbus Karma Thegsum Chöling Buddhist Center for my first time on 5-21-2023. The Columbus KTC Buddhist Center is located at 645 W. Rich St. in the "Franklinton" neighborhood of Columbus. The Columbus KTC Buddhist Center had previously been located -- for many years -- at the very same location -- with a 231 S. Grubb St. address at that time -- however, on 1-31-2016, their former building was destroyed because of a fire. For the next several years, while their current building was being constructed, they met temporarily at Congregation Tifereth Israel, a conservative Jewish congregation at 1354 E. Broad St. The new KTC Buddhist Center building had been completed during January 2022; the KTC community has moved back into its previous location but now is in its new building. On 5-21-2023, the KTC community invited members and friends of Interfaith Association [IACO] to an Open House to welcome many members of the Columbus interfaith community to their new home. We shared a meal together; there had been several speakers; then everyone was invited upstairs to the temple room for a tour, some meditation instruction, and then some time for meditation.
Columbus KTC is a very welcoming community that offers so much, including both introductions to meditation and Buddhism as well as support and teaching on progressively advanced Tibetan Buddhist practices and study. I have been going to the KTC for three years, and the teachers there are very helpful and have answered many of my questions. The Center has a number of offerings throughout the week, both in person and on zoom. Since I live three hours away I attend most of their programs on zoom, but for special events I make the drive into town. It’s always worth it!
