This was my second visit to purchase cups. Yesterday at this store, I had an extremely unpleasant checkout experience while buying a single cup—all due to the discriminatory attitude of one cashier. I feel it’s important to mention that I am Asian. That is why I was particularly confused and disappointed when the cashier (whose name Jenn or Jann) looked me over with a scrutinizing gaze after seeing I was only buying one cup and my card didn’t swipe successfully. Her expression was completely different with the previous customer, but when it was my turn to checkout, she put away her smile… My card failed on the first swipe—exactly what happened during my first visit. However, the two experiences were worlds apart: the staff member from my first visit was patient, friendly, and proactively helped me complete the payment. This cashier today, however, immediately showed impatience, watched coldly without offering help, and ignored me when I asked about the card reader… Eventually, I decided to pay with cash. Her attitude made me feel as though processing such a small transaction was a huge inconvenience to her. I would like to especially thank the staff member who assisted me during my first visit. Her professionalism and warmth had given me a very positive impression of this store. But today’s experience has made me reconsider the quality of service here—especially when it comes to basic respect and fair treatment of every customer.
Updated Review (2025) I used to love Crate & Barrel for its quality and design leadership, but sadly both have declined. As a designer and long-time customer (and a person who actually worked there part time for short term in the past), I’ve seen major drops in product quality and care. Recently, a Crate & Barrel candle I purchased, later broke apart after its burning time, melted over my expensive hand made rug ruining it— a serious safety hazard that could have caused a serious fire... Thankfully, it was on a metal surface. Never lived this issue with any candle in my entire life. I’ve raised quality concerns directly to multiple leaders on multiple products, but nothing was ever taken seriously (even while working there). Instead, the company seems to be compensating for its shortcomings by offering “free design services” led by retail staff. It’s not about design or quality or service at this level—it’s only about sales so the top store leadership can make their commissions not caring about design community or clients or even the brand they represent. (we were given hard time by managers at this location when we escalated ignored concerns of bad products deliveries etc. so HQ don’t find out about shortcomings) At time of challenge or issues they are hiding, dismissive not replying calls. This is one of the reasons the design trade in NYC is pulling business away from them. It’s disappointing to see a once-respected brand lose its integrity and ignore the people who truly care about design, quality, and safety especially in this NYC flagship store location. Store looks nice to walk around. Hopefully they’ll get back to the values they praise again and replace current sales leadership in this flagship store who treats schooled designers badly while exploiting them.
I ordered the Sinuous 2-Piece Curved Sectional Sofa with Chaise Lounge by Athena Calderone online from Crate & Barrel in April 2025, and it didn’t arrive until late July — nearly three months later. When it finally came, the buttons was detached and there was a large stain on the fabric. The delivery team acknowledged the damage and said a replacement would be arranged. While waiting for that replacement, the exact same sofa went on a major Labor Day sale — almost half off (from $3,098 to $1,548). Since I still hadn’t received a usable product, I contacted customer service for a price adjustment, but they refused, even though I’d been waiting for months for a functional sofa. Fast forward to late October: the replacement finally arrived with the same problem — the button detached again. I’ve spent over $25,000 on furniture with Crate & Barrel this time, and I expected far better quality and accountability. The product quality is disappointing, the delivery process is slow, and customer service is rigid and unhelpful. I first submitted this review on Crate & Barrel’s official product page and even confirmed my email as requested, but they rejected the review without any notification. I’m posting here because I believe customers deserve to know about my experience, and the official site refuses to share honest feedback. (This was an online purchase, not through a physical store, but I’m posting here because my experience reflects the brand overall.) For a company that markets itself as premium, this has been completely unacceptable. I truly regret this purchase and will think twice before buying from Crate & Barrel again.
Great open space store in the Flatiron area. All of the staff are extremely helpful and available. I have a good history shopping this brand. Excellent. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
If you're searching for beautiful and high-quality furniture for your home, Crate & Barrel is the perfect destination. This store is spacious, with the larger furniture items conveniently located on the lower level. The showroom is exceptionally well-organized and beautifully decorated, making it easy to envision how the pieces would look in your own space. What truly sets this store apart is its staff—they are incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, and always ready to assist. Special shoutout to Jose, Joshua, and Ada, who went above and beyond to provide excellent service. Overall, Crate & Barrel offers a fantastic shopping experience, complete with white-glove service. Highly recommended for anyone looking to elevate their home with stylish and functional furniture
