This is my experience: I had ordered a Summer Snow gardenia (supposed to be cold-hardy to Zone 6) on May 12th. I hadn't received a shipping notice some time after that, so I emailed LotsofPlants on May 20th, expressing my concern. They got back to me right away, apologizing for the delay, and mentioned that a new crop was scheduled to be released in the next week. It arrived on May 30th. The plant was carefully packaged, and when released from the box, I noticed that it was vibrantly green, bushy, with buds and even a nice, big, fragrant bloom. I'm very happy with my purchase!
No, I would not recommend this company. I am an avid gardener and routinely order plants online. On the rare occasion I have had an issue, I have never had trouble with the supplier. Not so with Lots of Plants. The real test of a quality company is how they respond to a customer issue. I give them an “F”. Bought two Summer Snow gardenias for $90 each. One was perfectly fine. The other has a bifurcated stem and flopped into two weak and spindly halves when removed from its container. Spoke with the OWNER by phone. Rather than solve the issue, he said “I don’t do emails” and redirected me to “Erica” who has ignored my request for a replacement or refund.
I purchased a Crown Jewel Gardenia from Lots of Plants, along with their custom soil mix. Shipping was impressively fast, which I appreciated. However, the plant arrived with several issues: multiple leaves had holes, there were white frosty spots (which I documented while the plant was still in its original container), and some new buds and leaves were scorched and shriveled. I understand that gardenias are finicky, especially when grown indoors, and starting off with a stressed plant greatly reduces its chances of survival. I contacted the owner with detailed photos, but my concerns were outright dismissed, with the claim that the plant was perfectly healthy. I’m continuing to monitor it for now, but at $93 for the plant alone, I expected a much healthier specimen.
I ordered 5- 7gal Incrediball Hydrangea plants totaling $600. I spoke with someone prior to them being shipped. He told me they had been pruned back in July so they weren’t very large. I asked how big and he stated 2 feet. They arrived looking terrible…. Dead leaves and bare sticks. Maybe one is close to 2 feet and the others much smaller. The plant containers seemed to have been filled with dirt, like they are smaller plants that were put in these containers. I am so upset I spent so much money on these plants. I have contacted the seller and am waiting for a response.
Like many others I am expecting zero accountability from the company and they will follow up and place blame on me but I will provide an honest review regardless. My boyfriend and I are experienced gardeners and landscapers. After doing our research we both decided on 4 coral sunset peonies and we came across LOP. They cost $88+tax and shipping. Not cheap. We took a chance based off all the high reviews. When I received the plants I noticed right away that they were not handled properly by the shipping company and the boxes damaged in transit. There were holes, water damage, and one was partially opened. They also did not ship as described in the website. The website says that they will ship one plant per box and they will be tightly packaged to prevent movement and soil spillage. Mine were packaged 2 to a long box with 2 of them hanging upside down. This caused 2 of my plants to have spilled most of the way out, several broken branches and caused stressed to the roots. Some leaves were already browning too. I immediately emailed the company and sent pictures. They asked me to remove all packaging and provide more photos. I was told they were in good condition and typical care instructions. Despite my frustration on the pa kind and handling we decided to try planting them and see if they could recover. Within a month 1 was dead, 1 was barely hanging on and 2 were doing okay. I followed up and was told that my original photos showed no damage and that my issue was watering and no mulch. They said they won’t recover this year but they’d regrow next spring and follow up then. The picture I sent admittedly did not show mulch, but that’s because we were in the process of replacing stone during that time. They had mulch otherwise. I watered all of my plants at the roots every 1-2 nights because of the heat wave. These were my only plants struggling and all my others were thriving. I tried to follow up with an email but after no response and multiple calls I was able to get ahold of someone over the phone. When I explained everything I was once again told that peonies are impossible to kill and they were just dormant but since I didn’t buy a warranty they can’t (won’t) do anything for me. I now have 4 dead, not dormant, twigs where peonies should be and am out $400 and will need to replace them next year. I’ll let the pictures speak for themselves.
