What sets this academy apart is its unwavering commitment to **authenticity and community**. MAV one teaches the art of street dance—including **breaking (breakdancing)**—in its truest form, preserving a cultural art handed down from teacher to teacher. It is, quite literally, one of the only places in Detroit where you can learn and practice authentic breaking. The environment MAV one has created is incredibly **safe, supportive, and non-commercialized**. He operates the academy with the pure kindness of his heart, often prioritizing the students and the art form over profit. He is deeply involved, providing kids with a structured and positive outlet for self-expression. His dedication goes above and beyond, as he frequently takes the youth crew to **competitions around the country**. This level of personal investment, often done with minimal resources, speaks volumes about his passion for mentoring these kids and exposing them to the wider dance community. Great dance program, we love it here. After over a year of being part of the community, we can say this is the best dance experience we have had. Every teacher we have had is patient, skilled, and talented. They do their best to make the kids feel seen and heard. My daughter has improved in confidence, team work, and leadership skills.
So blessed to have found MCSDA! My son takes Breaking and Popping classes at Motor City, as well as Detroit Jit and Beatmaking. I think he loves going here because they encourage his creativity and individuality. The instructors are so supportive, and they do a great job of teaching and promoting Hip Hop culture, in addition to dancing. Highly recommend!
