They say word of mouth is the best advertising, and that is true. I was in Edmonton visiting and my son had a recommendation to try Smoking Barrels. We were not disappointed. Our meal (feast) was savory with flavors of true ethnicity. Meats were tender and moist with the spice/heat to compliment the pallet. Add the homemade sauces and you'll understand why we are making this a destination of many returns. Service was like family sharing warmth and willingness to please. Thank you!
Food was fresh, flavorful, and overall very enjoyable. We had the quesabirria, which I would highly recommend because it was packed with meat and really flavorful. The al pastor tacos were generously filled with meat, but there wasn’t enough pico de gallo, barely enough for one taco. I’d recommend they provide more so you can properly dress them. For dessert, we tried the tres leches. It was moist but not very sweet. I prefer it with a bit more milk and sweetness. I also think it would be nice if they offered some spicier options. I tried all their sauces and none of them really had much heat. Service was good, and the atmosphere felt homestyle. Seating is limited and a bit tight, but overall I would come back.
Great spot in the NW that deserves a better location. As soon as you walk in you get a blast of aromas, music, and a sense we are not in Kansas anymore. We had to wait about 15 minutes for a table on a busy Saturday evening and went early , so be prepared to wait or go early. We enjoyed a selection of authentic chips and pico piña as well as some ceviche to start. It came out quick which was great. The four of us followed that up with a variety of hearty tacos double wrapped with corn tortillas. Lengua( beef tongue) , and the chorizo with Birria are highly recommended. I also had the Tortilla soup which was a meal in itself. ( Colombian Sancocho) ran out at noon 😕, but I was not disappointed. Everything was hot and fresh and the staff was very attentive. We will be back for sure . I gave it a 4 only because they don’t take reservations on weekends and there is no where to sit and wait . The place is also a bit small and every time someone opens the door you get a blast of cold. Seasonal obviously… and there is a small patio to mention for warm days. Overall all good value , you can eat well for 18-$25 per adult . We over did it a bit and wanted to try many things on the menu . Authentic Latino has come a long way in North West Edmonton and we are happy it did.
The food was so good! We shared the empanadas and they were great. I def preferred the chicken but the beef was good too. Then I had the birria tacos and they were delicious. Highly recommend. It is a smaller place so seating is limited but it’s a cute little place and the staff was great. We will be back!
I’ve ordered the quesabirria from Smokin’ Barrels Cocina Latina multiple times now, and it’s been amazing every single time! It’s unlike anything I’ve seen before, about the size of a pizza, and it’s definitely made to share. I also loved the 3 dips that came with it. The two were actually spicier than I expected and I love spice, so that was a nice surprise. The consommé is thicker, not thin and watery like other places. Love it!
