St. James’s Cafe in St. James’s Park is located in a beautiful area overlooking St. James’s Park Lake just step away from sites like Big Ben and Westminster Abbey. There’s plenty to choose from here for food and drink, including pre-packaged sandwiches, fresh made items from the deli kitchen and the sit-down menu. If you choose to sit at a table, order via QR code from there. When I was here it was pretty busy but my food arrived in a timely fashion. My Breakfast Bap and glass of wine were delicious. Seating is available outside during warmer weather. Very much recommended.
This review is for St James’s Café, located inside St James’s Park in London. It is a really lovely place, very well integrated into the park setting, with a pleasant and well-kept aesthetic that immediately invites you to sit down, relax, and enjoy the moment. The café works on a self-service basis, which makes perfect sense in this context. You can walk along the counter, choose from different pastry and boulangerie options, and then go to the till to order your drink. Everything is clear, organised, and flows smoothly, even when the place is busy. The pastry display is very appealing. The products are well presented, look fresh and tempting, and definitely make you want to try more than one thing. For a café located inside a park, the visual presentation is above average. When you pay, you order your drink at the counter and they hand you the cutlery there as well. The cutlery presentation is lovely—neat, well thought out, and with small details that really elevate the experience, even though it’s a self-service place. The service is good and friendly. It’s not table service, of course, but the staff do their job well, are helpful, and keep everything running smoothly and in an organised way. We ordered two cappuccinos, which were well made, with good temperature and balanced flavour. We also had a cake — more like what we would call a loaf cake or “budín” — one of those classic British cakes that come in many versions and names, and this one was very tasty and nicely moist. We also tried a scone, which came with a small ball of butter and a little jar of jam. Everything was beautifully presented, delicate and carefully prepared — simple details that really make a difference. Overall, everything we tried was very good. For a self-service café in a park, the quality is more than satisfying. You can tell there’s a clear intention to offer something nice, well designed, and pleasant for visitors. The surroundings add a lot to the experience. Being surrounded by greenery, with views of the park, makes the moment even more enjoyable. It’s an ideal spot to take a break after a walk, have a drink, and watch the life of the park go by. The only point that could be improved has to do with the cleaning of the outdoor tables. While we were sitting inside, a table outside became free and stayed uncleaned for about 15 minutes. During that time, pigeons completely took over the table. I even left a video to clearly show the situation. The pigeons climb onto the tables, plates and chairs, dirtying everything, which creates an unpleasant feeling for anyone who wants to sit there afterwards. While it’s true that customers should also help by clearing their tables, as part of the café service it would be good for the cleaning staff to check the outdoor seating more frequently to prevent this from happening. Aside from that, the overall experience is very positive and the café is highly recommended for a lovely, well-executed break inside St James’s Park.
The place and its surroundings are nice, and the interior and toilets are also well kept. However, the food was a bit disappointing. We ordered a burger and fish & chips, they weren’t bad, but very average, and for the price we expected something much better. Also, it’s worth noting that you have to order at the bar.
We visited St James's Café during a weekday lunch. Despite being busy, the café’s spacious layout made it easy to find a seat. Orders were placed at the counter, and I chose the fish and chips paired with a hot chocolate. The food arrived promptly. The fish and chips were fresh and flavourful, while the hot chocolate was pleasantly balanced, not overly sweet, and suited my palate perfectly. Overall, it was a very satisfying meal.
Fantastic cafe - ordered via the QR code on the table and the food arrived within 10 mins. Delicious food and good prized portion. Really nice relaxed vibe. Highly recommended.
