This is a lovely studio. It's tucked away from the road, quiet and peaceful, with lots of windows that look out into the trees, it feels like you're practicing yoga in a tree house. If you're looking for a studio that meets you where you are, this is it.
I've been to Yasodhara both as a student and as a teacher. It is a beautiful space and offers classes that are truly accessible for all bodies. It has become difficult to find classes in Spokane that are non-heated and align with the pure intentions of Yoga. This studio is truly a gem!
I love having a yoga studio close by that is only a few blocks from me. The classes aren’t too hard either, not like power yoga.
I completed my first yoga session with the yoga instructor (Swami Yashoda Nanda) last month. I was so satisfied with my experience that I signed up for the following month. First off, the location is absolutely stunning. The yoga studio is located behind a picturesque Victorian Manor in, in my opinion, the most beautiful part of Spokane: Browne's Addition. The studio itself is quite cozy. It is nestled on a hilltop overlooking the gulch containing Overlook Park, Highbridge Park, and the Latah Creek. In the background you can see endless strings of lights on the hills as well as from the traffic on the highways and elevated railway. In addition, there are many trees and other plants easily seen from the beautiful windows. During the day, the studio is perfectly illuminated by natural light. The studio's interior is also very well decorated. It is a hardwood floor and is extremely clean and tidy with plenty of space. Various Indian decorations and icons are pleasantly arranged around the studio. It is a smaller studio and likely could only see maybe five students at most when one accounts for social distancing. Speaking of social distancing, having proof of a COVID vaccination is a requirement for in-person sessions. If you are unable to attend in-person sessions for whatever reason, I know that the yoga studio also offers online sessions. Coming in as a complete yoga novice, I wasn't sure what to expect. I was honestly skeptical I would enjoy it. Thankfully, that skepticism was quickly put to rest after a couple sessions. I can only describe my time at Yasodhara Yoga as a transformative journey to mindfulness and spiritual rejuvenation. The yoga instructor teaches what is called "Hatha" yoga, which the instructor explained to me translates as, "fire and ice" or "hot and cold" on Wednesday evenings. This is an extremely fitting translation as the yoga that I enjoyed had a mixture of both moderately strenuous and relaxation poses. There's also a spiritual component, such as when the instructor has us perform the Divine Light invocation. I can personally say that practicing this invocation has been a fulfilling and blissful experience. Other than the yoga itself, the instructor is an excellent teacher. She is extremely patient and gentle and encourages her students to go at their own pace and listen to their body over her words. In addition, the instructor can modify poses for her students if they are not as flexible and cannot perform the pose comfortably (for example, I perform a modified Downward-Facing Dog as I recently broke my clavicle and don't want to put a lot of stress on my clavicle). I have found this style of teaching to be highly beneficial and useful for someone like me who is completely new to yoga. It is extremely clear to me that the instructor is very passionate about teaching and yoga itself. The office member, Amanda, is also very helpful. The office was very accommodating when I tried to get a replacement session when I couldn't make yoga. When that replacement day fell through, I was told that I would be credited a day on my next sign up for yoga. Speaking of which, the yoga lessons are quite affordable. Each single lesson is $12, or you can buy a series of four for $40 (a savings of $8 total or about 17%). I literally cannot recommend Yasodhara Yoga Spokane enough. Whether you're a complete novice like myself or an experienced yoga practitioner, there's something for everyone. Namaste!
