First timer for dinner last night. Great city feel and both their food and service was excellent.
Had a business dinner here in Nov 2025. This place is interestingly amazing. A very narrow building but multi-floor. The dining area was on 3. The bar was on 4. Private dining on 5. A cafe on 1. Really cool in my opinion. This is a steak house. The food is meat and various types of it. Some seafood, but this is for the carnivore who appreciates meat. I enjoyed the food and the pairings. I had the bone marrow, and that was delicious. Served right. Also the octopus was perfect. The wine selection was perfect. The service great and attentive. The ambiance appropriate for the location. Easy to get to when in the area. Right across the street from the Macys and other shopping. I definitely recommend this place. Reservations required. Classy but not over the top. Definitely recommended. Would stop in again in the future.
Had an amazing bone in ribeye here tonight. Best steak for a while. Sides were excellent too - if a little large for one guy. Wine by the glass selection was great and service was first class. So why only 4 stars. For a while now I’ve had a policy of deducting a star when the restaurant management add surcharges to the bill. Here it was a 3% San Francisco surcharge. I strongly believe that these costs should be in the price of the food - just like all other costs are. So the food and service were 5 star - the restaurant management not.
Alexanders was great. The food was amazing. Took my mom for her birthday. They did not have any moscatos but the sommelier came quickly and found something comparable, a nice dessert wine. She got the halibut which she enjoyed tremendously. We got some wagyu to share with the table which was fantastic and melt in your mouth. The rest of the party got steaks. I will say the cut was great but the knife had trouble cutting through a medium rare. We had the oysters with blueberry vinegar sauce, the steak tartar was to die for and little gem salad which was okay. For sides we got the truffle fries, absolutely delicious and not over powering. Then we also got the mashed potatoes as well as the green beans. For desert we got a couple different options. The parfait, chocolate something and the sorbet trio. Presentation 10/10 Atmosphere 7/10 Atmosphere as stated in other reviews was a little blah. Overall, the food was great. Very pricy but worth it for special occasions. The birthday treat, cotton candy and chocolates were a sweet gesture on their behalf as well.
Visited Alexander's for a birthday. In some ways they went above and beyond, in others, we were a little miffed. This definitely has the feel of a classic steakhouse in both decor, service, and presentation, which could be a positive or a not depending on what you're after. The new space is a bit generic but nice, although it felt a little empty and stuffy on a Saturday night. The staff however was very positive and pleasant and we enjoyed their wine recommendations and interactions. Cocktails were sweet but still good. The wine list is Burgundy-exhaustive. Appetizers were enjoyable. The two misses were a really long wait in between our appetizers and entrees with no apology, which seemed especially odd given the mostly empty restaurant, and then a tough and undercooked steak, which was the main event. For a $100 steak, we expected more, especially given it's the specialty. I imagine Alexander's would have gone through the paces to make it right and refired a new one to the requested temp, but after waiting nearly 40 minutes for it, there is no way we were going to wait any further. We very much appreciated that they still served a candle and small dessert even though we decided not to order any dessert; that was a very nice gesture and was very appreciated. I think this could be a much better experience, maybe we got an off night. We did not try any Wagyu, their specialty.
