Jean Sweeney Open Space Park is one of Alameda’s true community treasures. It’s a huge, beautifully maintained park that has something for everyone. Families will love the large playground areas, complete with creative structures for kids of all ages to climb, slide, and explore. There are also plenty of open fields and walking paths that make it easy to enjoy a relaxing stroll, jog, or bike ride. What stands out is how thoughtfully the space is designed — wide open grassy areas for picnics, shaded spots to rest, and plenty of room for kids to run and play safely. It’s also a wonderful gathering spot for the community, often hosting events, activities, and a welcoming atmosphere for everyone who visits. Whether you’re looking for a place to exercise, let the kids burn off energy, enjoy a picnic, or simply relax outdoors, Jean Sweeney Open Space Park is a perfect choice. It feels like a green oasis right in the middle of Alameda, and you can tell how much care goes into keeping it clean and inviting. Highly recommended for families, dog walkers, and anyone who enjoys spending time in the outdoors.

It's a small park with big things to do. The wide slide was a hit, and so was the tire swing and the bungi line ride. Fun for all kid ages. Nice place for a kid party. Unfortunately, we went on a very hot day and there was only a little shade. No awnings at the tables. But still I recommend.

So bummed to have been in the Alameda area in a stormy day, but stopped and checked out the park as long as we could without becoming soaked and wind burned. My toddler loved the place! It had a little bit of everything. Huge slides. Swings. I gle gyms. A zip line. And so much more. There is a bike trail as well as a trail for walking. They have restrooms. There are covered patios for eating. Can’t wait to return and let my critter run around and expend some energy.

Great park with unique ways to have fun! Zipline, swing set, play structure for little kids, big slide, logs to walk on, and a big sand box! Bathrooms are available. It is a great space and there is free parking. I recommend bring some sand toys and a hat. Most of the play areas are not covered so on a sunny day it can be hot. There is a bicycle path so you may also want to bring scooters and bikes!
