Fabulous building and such a warm welcome. Great food and free lunch time meditation!

I had conflicting experiences here. The building itself is very beautiful and the staff/volunteers are lovely and eager to help. The lessons are numerous and regular with retreats in UK and overseas. However, in the two books I have read, The New Eight Steps to Happiness and Universal Compassion I became overwhelmed by the convoluted and confusing instructions, all of which made my practice less fruitful. To make the most of these teachings, it seems regular lessons would most likely be needed, at some mounting cost. Personal preference leads me back towards Zen for its philosophy, ease of access and application to day to day life. Your experiences may vary and I encourage you to try before coming to your conclusions.

The centre is okay. Sadly the teacher waffles on about drum and bass a lot. I’d previously noticed a review about the centre not being cruelty free. This is always a consideration for us because our whole family are vegan and compassionate. The centre is vegetarian and NOT cruelty free so please be aware of this prior to attending. Prices for classes are exuberant and definitely fit a demographic. It’s hard to sit and listen to teachings about WORLD PEACE and loving kindness and compassion and then watch teachers and centre members sit down and eat cheese, cakes with milk, butter and eggs. Please be aware. This centre is NOT VEGAN which means it’s NOT CRUELTY FREE. Compassion ends when you decide you’re superior to animals.

I love going to Kadampa. It's a lovely, peaceful place. Everyone there is so welcoming. I attend the Tuesday evening meditations as often as I can. They give me useful perspective and things to reflect on. The cafe is also a great place to sit and soak up the vibes. Highly recommend a visit 💞

The Kadampa Meditation Centre is a real gem –an oasis of Stillness even– tucked in the heart of Leeds City (behind the Corn Exchange). The space is soothing, from the reception at the entry point, straight along to the little books and trinkets shop, then down to the cafe area, and finally up, up, up to the grand meditation hall. The staff (which is not even an appropriate term for those lovely and compassionate souls, based on their high level of hospitality) are very inviting, attentive, knowledgeable and kind. They make you feel truly welcomed and invite you to sit in the meditation hall - even when there are no sessions going on. In my case, I not only got to take a silent breather in an awe inspiring space - but I also got given a small gift of a Dark Chocolate Mallow, as well as some rather insightful conversations across the board. All so greatly appreciated!
