My partner and I visited the hot springs after a stressful few weeks. The facilities are beautiful, with thoughtful touches like herbal teas, sparkling water, great views, and a well-designed contrast bathing circuit. However, while it’s clearly meant to be a social bathhouse, the experience would benefit from clearer spa etiquette. Some guests were extremely loud, others were disruptive in the sauna taking up much more space then necessary to do yoga, and sandals and cups left everywhere around the pools created serious tripping hazards. My towel was also taken despite being left in a specific spot with my other belongings, so I had to take someone else's which is gross. While much of this falls on guests, better guidance or enforcement feels warranted given the price. Additionally, the steam room’s heavy use of essential oils was irritating to my eyes and throat and made the experience less relaxing.
I honestly wish there was a 4.5 option.... because it was an almost perfect visit. Although they do restrict reservations, and number of people there, it was crowded, and the other visitors seemed unaware the were not there alone. I visited at night, have a knee injury so I need to enter and leave by the stairs/railing, and several times people were reluctant to move, and left their slides right at the railing (dark slides on dark flooring means I tripped several times). The lockers are not fully private; with no door for entry a few times men walked down the hall not realizing there would not be a 'barrier' for then looking right in. So those are the reasons for a 4.5, and it could be completely different at different times! So far as the facility, it is lovely; you look out on the freeway and city lights in the distance (we visited after dark). 3 pools (one cold, med and hot), a true STEAM room and dry sauna. The staff is lovely and kind, and try to make your experience nice. The facility provides a laundry list of what you might need for your visit. We usually soak for about 15 mins when we do, but we used our full 2 hours, rotating from the two warm pools, to the sauna/steam room, or relaxing on the chairs. No photos, because we were informed no cell phones/photos are allowed inside the facility. If you are a lover of warm water, and it is part of your health care/self care practice, this is a great place to fit it in.
46th Finnish sauna review: (this review is only about the sauna) while a lovely facility, the sauna leaves a lot to be desired. While well heated with 2 Harvia heaters, with the huge amount of glass and people coming and going it never really feels hot in there. Coupled that with the benches being low - cold legs, not following law of löyly, the experience was pretty average. The heaters are lacking rocks, and seem to be about 1/4 empty with coils visible fairly strongly. As a result the löyly (bucket and ladle provided) hits incredibly sharply when it eventually hits from the ceiling. Limited lämpömassa as a result of missing rocks coupled with constant coming and going. Cold plunge was great - guessing around 37f. Included teas were nice (one overly watery, the other was cold). While a great facility, the sauna was a let down. Especially for the premium price charged.
Knot Springs is one of my favorite places in Portland to reset. Weekday mornings at the soaking pools are the best; peaceful, quiet, and never too crowded (as it is in the evenings). The pools, steam room, and sauna are beautifully designed, and the views of the Willamette River and Portland make the whole experience feel special. I love the water and tea station (they even have sparkling water on tap), the cozy Pendleton towels and great-smelling soaps and lotions. Everything is spotless, the staff are kind, and I always leave feeling lighter and calmer. It’s a splurge, but absolutely worth it for a restorative self-care day.
I went with my sister while she was visiting with her boyfriend in town and they were impressed by the spa and varying pool temperatures. It was incredibly relaxing and I wish we could have stayed a bit longer but they had a plane to catch! The staff was super kind and accommodating and allowed us to put the luggage in a sectioned off area. Towels, body wash, shampoo and slippers are provided. The outdoor deck was really beautiful and provided a clear view of Portland. I will certainly be returning🧖🏼♀️
