Have been a member for a while, but I have been suffering tendonitis that has not gotten better even with rest. I asked to end my annual (charged monthly) contract two months early. They refused and their explanation was very unsatisfying. I expected better from a local Portland business. I'd recommend going to Portland Rock Gym instead, and be very cautious about signing up for a long term membership.
My favorite of all the Circuit locations. Really solid and challenging routes, kind and helpful staff, and it's kept clean, especially for a gym. Parking can be a bit tough but that's not the gym's fault, just the fault of it being in a good location. Level Beer down the road is a great spot to go after a climb - get the stamp from the Circuit so you can get a dollar off your pint!
I love the Circuit, but the management’s policy around heat is unacceptable. The Circuit does not have AC, and during the summer it’s only OK to climb there and safe for the employees to work there for ~5/16 of the hours that they are open. I have asked employees on 100 degree days if they will be open for the afternoon, and they have told me that they don’t know and are waiting to hear from management. It is the very least you can do to inform patrons and your employees that you will be closed at times you are certain it will be unsafe to climb there. Members know not to show up at 2 pm on a 95 degree day, but I suppose the management hopes someone will wander in and fork over $20 for the worst indoor climbing experience of their life instead of crossing the street and going to PRG. Once again, I love the Circuit and want the best for the business and the community that goes there, but something’s got to give, and my personal preference would be for it to be the CEO(?)’s wallet that suffers, rather than the front desk employees.
This Circuit location has been my go-to for over a year now. The staff and community are great, the terrain geometry is some of the most interesting in the metro area, and its in a fun neighborhood for plans before or after your session. It's a little barebones compared to other gyms, the parkings not always easy, and generally the settings pretty "light". That said there's still always going to be something you can find to challenge you and it makes for a great location to bring your friends who may be new to the sport. I'm a big fan, this spot has my favorite cave within a short drive of downtown. Here's a few pics of my friend and i gripping some plastic.
Tons of wall area, helpful staff, decent rates. The routes are changed weekly on a rotating schedule around the gym to keep it fresh. A filtered water station for water bottles is available at the drinking fountain. They also have nail clippers to borrow, or if you find that gross you can buy your own for a dollar. The entire place is kept impressively clean. If you're a month to month member, you can put snacks and drinks on your next monthly bill. Overall very happy to be a member here.
