I went to Kyushu in Virginia Beach with high hopes thanks to the glowing reviews. I eat sushi all the time, so I figured I was in for a treat. Instead… let’s just say I would’ve been better off grabbing a grocery store roll and calling it a day. I ordered the Newtown Roll, which shows up looking gorgeous—lightly fried, golden, fish still raw inside (just the way it should be). Unfortunately, it smelled like it had been marinating in a tackle box all summer. Against my better judgment, I took a bite. Big mistake. Huge. When I asked about the roll and its “unique” aroma, the server told me she still had to charge me because it was a “custom” item. I’m sorry… isn’t everything on the menu technically custom? You order it, they make it—that’s how restaurants work. To be fair, the miso soup was spot-on, and my grandma actually enjoyed her chicken teriyaki box (though oddly, they don’t give you rice with it, which feels like serving peanut butter without jelly). Overall: bad service, fishy fish, and a bill I regret. One star for the soup, one star for grandma’s box, and zero chance I’d ever come back.
10 stars for service! Food too actually, one of the few places I can find a whole eel meal 🥘 yumm 😋 the crab leg tempura was phenomenal, heck everything we put in our mouths was excellent from sushi rolls to fried tofu. Keeping this one on the 5 star list for sure 👍🏻 reasonable prices super professional service they do it right here.
I ordered to-go but it was a great experience. Very friendly, great vibes, beautiful place. Family oriented. Awesome sushi bar. All food is fresh & made to order. Great prices, very clean! I got 2 Virginia Rolls & a piece of Octopus Sashimi. Excellent!
This is a great local Japanese restaurant that makes everything fresh when you order! It was amazing and my daughter loved it! We had miso soup, crab Rangoon, chicken teriyaki, tempura tuna roll, and panko cheesecake. The service was exceptional and so was the food! I highly recommend you check this place out if you like Japanese food.
I tried sushi for the first time 2 weeks ago in Japan, and have been wanting it ever since I came back to the US. I was not disappointed at all!!! The sushi I had was very fresh and I enjoyed it. My server, Annie, was so kind and did a great job not only attending to me, but everyone else in the restaurant. I also felt like the prices were very reasonable. I highly recommend and will most definitely be back!
