I heard that my Xena didn’t quite pass the evaluation, and I got some feedback that wasn’t great. This is her first time in a new place, so I think a one-day, 30-minute evaluation might not give us enough of a picture. It takes time, lots of interaction, and practice for Xena to get comfortable being social with the dogs. She’s a really energetic dog, and that can be a bit much for some. She’s so eager to make friends, but sometimes that can be overwhelming for both dogs and people. The staff at PetSuites should have a better understanding of all kinds of dog behavior, be more open to working with her, and help her get used to the dog world.

We had no issue with the care given our dog during our first boarding experience at this facility but have concerns with communication, temperament testing guidelines, and that dogs are solely separated into two groups based on size leading to a very large number of dogs being cared for by a single person. At prior doggy daycares, groups were smaller and considered the dog energy level as well as size. This place does not. It's one size fits all. We had toured the facility, finding it clean and well maintained with most of the dogs indoors with one person supervising each of the 2 play groups. We noted one dog in a crate in the large dog area and asked why and were told the dog may have needed a time out from playing. We dropped our dog Daisy off on Thursday morning for her temperament testing, expecting her to join group play during her 6 nights of boarding. We were told dogs have 3 chances at passing and we would be called with results. We weren't called, but texted, with the news she had not passed and they would test her again Sunday, on the 4th day of her stay, meaning she would be in her small kennel with only bathroom breaks for 4 days, not socializing and playing in group. I called, surprised my happy go lucky dog who has been at more than a dozen doggy daycares, doggy boarding, Rover in home boarding, and Rover meet and greets, had failed. I was told she passed meeting the low energy dog, the medium energy dog but not the high energy one who barked in her face. We had completed a detailed questionnaire as we dropped her off, explaining she typically holds back and is submissive when in new situations but does warm up. It seems our information was not considered. I also asked why she couldn't be tested earlier than Sunday and was told Sunday was quieter with less dogs and made her more likely to pass their "strict guidelines." I was dismayed and confused with this uncharacteristic process and was firm in insisting she be retested the next day. They complied and she passed. I only gave 3 stars for several reasons: 1. I think the "strict guidelines" where dogs have to be ok with being barked at by high energy dogs should be rethought. Those dogs should be penned, not my good natured dog. I do not understand what is served by passing a dog on a slow Sunday if she ends up with the rowdy bunch on Monday. 2. I think this location is understaffed and should further separate dogs into 4 groups, not 2, so large and small also have a high energy and lower energy separation. Having 40+ dogs in a single group (from what I observed on the cameras on the busier days) means there is enough income to staff additional areas. 3. Communication needs improvement - if you say you will call, then call, don't text. And if we complete a detailed questionnaire, read and consider it when testing. With some added staff and better communication , I am confident PetSuites can earn 5 stars but as it is now (and I did communicate my concerns with the facility already) this is a mass production facility where your dog will be safe but not engaged and enjoying playtime. Unfortunately, it's more prison yard than playground. Dogs will be physically safe but not mentally engaged.

Pickles Marie, my beagle mix, absolutely loves her time at PetSuites Chesapeake! She’s never been happier thanks to the genuinely caring, sweet staff who treat every dog like family. The puppy daycare is spotless, spacious, and filled with joyful energy—Pickles always comes home tired and content from playing and socializing with her furry friends. Watching her happily dash in each morning, tail wagging, and curl up for snuggles after a day of fun melts my heart. PetSuites has truly given Pickles a safe, loving place to thrive, and I’m so grateful for every moment she spends there.

So pleased with my pets stay! I was very nervous dropping my sweet kitty off for the first time since adopting her from a shelter. Miss whiskey had a stay of 12 days and she was so well taken care off! The staff did a great job of keeping me updated with pictures and pawgress reports! I could tell whiskey was adjusting the first few days but by the middle of her stay it was obvious via pictures she had relaxed and adjusted to being in her cat condo. Will definitely be leaving her here again for any out of town trips!

If I could give them zero stars, I would!! I usually drop my leo off at the one in newport news but decided to try it here because it was on the way. Picked my baby up, and he was bleeding and his paws were reddened and bleeding. Called them and they were rude and didn't let me finish what I was saying and just told me to send pictures. Anyways, I sent pictures and have yet to hear back anything from them. Please don't let your doggies board here.
