We visited rec room in Vancouver as my son is requesting to try this branch, he tried it back in Toronto so to compare it was great and ambiance has different feel here which is great. More of adults playing at night since they already serve liquors so get ready to show your identification upon entry. Washroom are clean and we redeemed our banked points from wayback and we got recroom merch which is awesome. We will be back for sure, the location in downtown is a bit sketchy but good thing that there is a lot of lighting and it is near the train station.
Wow I am very impressed by this location. We went for. Star Trek Trivia night. It’s a huge place. They participate in bar watch so they will scan your drivers licence upon entry. That’s a good thing for sure. I think more places should be in that program. The prices were amazing especially then happy hour prices. I had the buffalo chicken bites for $10 and the portion was more than enough to fill me up. I was actually very surprised. The service was prompt and the entire experience was amazing. Especially the 2 guys that run the trivia. Def going to go back even if it’s for happy hour prior to going to a pub sometime for eats and drinks.
The Rec Room Granville was such a cool place to hang out. I went there with someone and immediately noticed how many teenagers were enjoying themselves. The atmosphere was electric with music lights and laughter filling the space. Teenagers would love how energetic and social it feels because it is a place where you can play eat and relax all in one visit. The service was fast and helpful especially at the game counters and food stations. The value was solid because you get a lot of entertainment for what you pay and there are fun combo deals. The quality of the games and food was high and everything felt clean and well maintained. The selection of games was huge with classic arcade favorites new interactive experiences and plenty of variety for different interests. I only visited once before writing this review but I would definitely go back. Teenagers would love it because it is playful social and full of energy.
We had a terrific time with the games and my 10 year old was in heaven. The mini golf downstairs was a really nice touch and the course was fun with just enough challenge. Only complaint was they were out of items at the bar, particularly for happy hour (no wine) and no espresso Martinis. If you are going to offer a happy hour menu, and two of your limited items are unavailable, it's time to offer a substitute.
I will say, having read some of the reviews before coming here, I find some to be brutally/ unfairly harsh (perhaps people just had different expectations heading in?), and some to be pretty in line with my experience. We came here on a Friday evening, and even though we made a reservation on Open Table, we realized that we didn’t necessarily need one as the restaurant portion on the first floor was relatively empty when we arrived at around 5:30 PM (it’s also before the dinner rush I suspect). First, the good: the appy hour had insane values. For $10, we thought we would be getting bite sized, small appetizers like a lot of other restaurants’ offerings these days. However, both the chicken lettuce wrap & the buffalo chicken bites were HUGE in my opinion for what you’re paying for at a sit down restaurant, and we ended up not getting mains because we got full 😅 The lettuce wrap had good seasoning and flavour, but I wish that the buffalo chicken bites were a bit hotter temperature wise. Shout out to Dan, our server as well, for giving us a free upgrade on the appy hour beer when they accidentally rung in a pint instead of a sleeve! Now, the mix/ not so good: We didn’t receive popcorn when we saw several other tables did - wasn’t sure if it was selective? Then, when we finished our meals and decided to start with the mini golf in the basement as our first game, it was 6:30 PM. Firstly, the person charged us for the mini golf when we said we wanted to check how many credits were left on our bands first. She seemed very confused, and after she charged us, she kind of just informed us that we had been charged and there were x amount of credits left, so we had no choice but to play the mini golf (which ended up being our favourite game- oh well!) But then, the real headache started when we thought we would get another drink on appy hour from the bar downstairs while we play games, but EVERYONE seemed sooo confused about what we were asking for. The bartender downstairs had no idea what drinks were on appy hour and redirected us to the main floor. When we walked to the main floor, the manager/ host seemed very confused, talked on their headset, then advised us to go to the bar the floor up where most of the other games are as the bar is too busy and it would be 20-25 minutes before we could get our drinks. We then now arrive on the third floor, only for the servers to be confused about what we’re asking too and accidentally charged us for two pints of beers (full price) 😅 She had to then get a manager to come refund us in cash and ring in appy hour prices again, and this whole fiasco took about 15-20 minutes when all we wanted were two beers lol 😭 I do want to say that everyone on the floor was super kind, but it just speaks to the overall system and communication/ training issue, especially if the establishment has multiple floors/ areas. Lastly, they have more games than Brentwood! Nothing groundbreaking I would say, but a fun date night spot once in a while if you’re into arcade games :) I would say just come here instead of traversing to Brentwood now, as they have bigger spaces too!
