There are yoga studio where its seems the main deal is playing « Simon says » : lift this, fold that, but it doesn’t make much sens. Other studio feel like training gym with music, performance, with everyone doing the same thing while you can’t always follow up and feel bad about it. Ashtanga yoga Montréal is nothing like those. It’s at the same time one of the most complete and diverse yoga practice and a humble, grounded and connected community. Their biggest asset is their roster of teachers, all more comptetent, engaging and motivating than each other. Stella’s warmth, gentleness and humility will wow you; Lynn’s creativity, hands-on corrections and virtuosité will amaze you; Michael’s limitless knowledge and willingness to adapt his course on the spot will mesmerize you; Ni Ying’s energy and fun twists will make you smile (and sweat!) and motivate you; Jeanne’s passion and keen eye will inspire you and make you feel she somehow knows better than you what’s happening in your own body (and she often does!). There are many more teachers, they’re all good! All of these will gently, nonjudgmentaly and steadily help you become a better yogi and human. They will always suggest different versions of the poses so the first timer and the most accomplished yogi can learn and take advantage of the same class and one actually understands where all this folding and bending is eventually leading. Seemingly infinite micro tune-ups that add up to actually take you closer to each asana and see a progression. The shala is not only a place to practice, it’s a place to *learn*, to understand, to respect. The Studio itself is peaceful and welcoming, with large, beautiful wood floor, lots of daylight and lush, luxuriant plants. There’s always enough space for you and your stuff. It’s such a gift to get to practice in a community as diverse (in skills, age, body shape, experience, etc) and deliberate as this one. See you there!
This is by far the best yoga studio in Montreal! It is a welcoming space that is accessible to all kinds of people and all levels, whether you are completely new to yoga or an experienced practitioner. The teachers are wonderful and very knowledgeable. I was so happy when I found the studio 4 years, and haven't looked back since! and also did the teacher training with the studio, which I would also highly recommend.
I have been coming to Ashtanga Yoga on and off since around 2017. While I have tried other yoga studios in Montreal, I always keep coming back. The class offerings have changed a bit over time, but the instruction has always remained exceptional. Jeanne is not only an experienced and intuitive yoga instructor, but also an absolute sweetheart. She and the other instructors are welcoming and knowledgeable. Ashtanga Yoga remains one of the few studios where the instructors come around and help with adjustments, which I find so important! When I first arrived at the studio, I was something of a newbie and am easily intimidated in spaces like this. However, the clientele is kind and unpretentious - everyone is there to focus on their own practice. As well, the studios are spacious and clean. I have not had the pleasure of trying the Zoom classes, as my own apartment is not really big enough for yoga, but Ashtanga Yoga clearly has their audio/visual setup in good and working order. If you are a novice looking for a place to begin your yoga practice, or an experienced practitioner looking to continue it, look no further than Ashtanga Yoga!
This yoga studio is an absolute gem. I mainly come for the restorative yoga classes, which are deeply calming, beautifully guided, and exactly what I need to unwind and reset. It is always spotless, serene, and welcoming. Highly recommend!
The best yoga studio in Montreal. Highly qualified instruction and a very warm atmosphere from the owner, Jeanne, to all the teachers and students that make this community such a welcoming place. Highly recommend !!!
