Ordered cupcakes for my parents' 51st wedding anniversary and we were from out of town. I called the day before and they were very accommodating and had great suggestions. They were the only bakery that had some kind of dark chocolate for my diabetic parents so I was very grateful for that. Super cute idea to put the cupcakes in egg cartons! Wish I had the chance to eat there and I was definitely very tempted to order other treats!
So we used to live in San Antonio and are very adamant about supporting local business. But this review echoes lots of the other bad reviews. The quality has gone down and it's just not there anymore. I really do hope this reaches the right person, it seems like everyone says the same thing. Why has the quality changed? So now to my issue, we ordered two dozen mini cupcakes, When they got home and we all bit into them, 😋they were chalky and tasted off. 😭 I can't explain it because I'm not a baker. The best I can describe, it's like baking soda was overly added. Or like when you bite into a baked good where the baking soda wasn't properly mixed into it. It's tasted gross/chemically🤢. So I called the store 📞🤳, I never call the store. Even though in previous times their cupcakes have been dry or stale. I always wanna give them another shot. This time they answered, apologized for my experience, and they did offer to replace the cupcakes if I could come in before they closed. It was 5:30 PM and I live in Castroville. That's at least 45 minutes during peak traffic time. The young lady, I spoke to was polite and she had to relay with her manager. I explained that I wasn't calling for that kind of compensation, in fact, I wasn't calling for any kind of compensation. I just really wanted them to be aware that their product was off. But even if they had planned to replace the cupcakes, why replace them with the same batch? I was even offered to have a batch of today's cupcakes, set aside that I can pick up tomorrow. Again, not sure why you would want to offer those same cupcakes? At the end, I wasn't irate, I was just really disappointed. I thanked the lady for the offer, explained that it wasn't necessary and it honestly wasn't worth the drive. So TO WHOM IT MAY CONVERN: owners, management, etc..maybe y'all can brainstorm better R&D, or quality control. Because you used to have a great product, and you have people who wanted to support you. But not even willing to offer fresh cupcakes the next day. Seems a little disappointing, not more disappointing however, then the fact that such an awesome establishment has really lost a lot of of its quality.
A cute bakery offering sweets and savory foods like sandwiches, chicken and tuna salad, and such. Polite customer service. The interior isn't that big but there are small and picnic style tables to sit at. One particular thing I liked was that I was offered honey to sweeten my latte. I appreciated that as one who tries to avoid artificial sweeteners. The frosting on the strawberry cupcake was delicious! Great strawberry flavor! Carrot cake was moist, lemon curd in the special was so good, and the coconut was mellow.
The Californian Turkey and corn chowder were delicious. The chips were very stale. The spinach artichoke grilled cheese was oily to the point of not being edible. Cute place with friendly service. Not a lot of parking available.
Bird Bakery is my favorite breakfast hangout. Feels like I still like in the Small Town I grew up in. Everybody knows you when you walk in the door. 4 th of July so we are having homemade Apple Pie for breakfast with fresh whipped cream. Yes, I said homemade because it’s from scratch… if you understand that terminology:). Usually order “Deconstructed” Breakfast sandwich. Happy 4 th everyone. Oh and don’t forget to order custom cookies and cakes .. they are amazing.
