Popped in a few times to grab some presents or a treat myself to a nice bottle of wine and every time staff have been lovely. They always have great recommendations and beer wise they have an amazing array of beers for a gift or a treat they are the perfect shop. However tonight I went for a drink outside on their veranda which I’d never done before had the super 8 cherry beer which was lovely and it was a great spot to watch the world go by, recommend to anyone in the area.
I’m usually hard pressed to leave a negative review for a local place, never mind a 1 star review, but this one is deserved. We’re not wine experts. We just like asking questions and getting advice. At Carringtons, that seemed to be a problem. The long haired guy behind the bar, the same one mentioned in plenty of other reviews, spoke to us like we were stupid. Simple questions were met with attitude and a raised voice. Not welcoming, not helpful, just rude. At one point he even started swearing at a customer. If you’d never bought a bottle before, especially for a gift, this place would feel genuinely intimidating. Some replies to reviews claim they offer respectful service. Honestly, you’d struggle to find that anywhere in the shop, and the repeated complaints that never get addressed make it feel like the person everyone’s talking about might also be the one replying. There are plenty of places in Chorlton where you can ask a question without being made to feel small. We’ll be going there instead. And to be fair: the wine he recommended was lovely, which makes the experience even more disappointing.
Great knowledgeable service in this place. Managed to buy pretty much what I need and if they don't have it happy to order for you. A total Aladdins cave of an emporium. My cocktail cellar is filling up fast. Bought a very interesting bottle of Green Chartreuse today. Great value for money. Back next week as I have orders to buy the Calvados that I made a rash decision not to buy this evening. Plus hopefully Yellow Chartreuse and a bottle of Benedictine ready to cook up a Widows Kiss cocktail. My kind of shop. I am looking forward to exploring some recommendations for red wine as well
Great shop. Friendly and extremely helpful staff. Amazing selection of beers and wines for every taste. Oktoberfest beers are a must!!
Loads of choice of wines and beers from all over the place too. Nice to have a drink outside as well. The lady who runs it gave us some good pointers too which was appreciated. Could be our new local as we’ve just moved into the area
