I was originally going to come in for the adult intro, unfortunately the coach had to leave last minute, but the staff were kind enough to allow me a free day of climbing instead. The staff are all very friendly and welcoming and were happy to show me around also. The gym itself is great, it feels neat and tidy, there's lots of different kinds of boulders even for a complete novice such as myself. All the people are also very easy going and are a joy to interact and be around. Overall a great experience and i'm looking forward to continue climbing here.
Visited this gym twice during our summer holidays. Check-In: Registration was really quick and the in person competence check was appreciated to ensure everyone really understood the safety rules shown in the registration video. Very friendly and welcoming staff! Boulder area and route setting: really nice and open boulder area with big variety of wall angles to set boulders in different styles and difficulties. The grading was comparable to other gyms we visited. There were many places to sit and enjoy a coffee while watching others climb or just to have a break. The non-climbers in our family enjoyed a delicious coffee with lovely milk-art and banana bread. Thanks George Cameron for our chat regarding this nice mint V9 - Ben was able to top it during our second visit fairly easy. Overall: the gym is really welcoming and is definitely worth a visit if you are in or around Cardiff! Best regards, Ben and Jan from Munich
Been a member of Flashpoint for a few years now. Tried other climbing gyms around South Wales but none of them compare to Flashpoint. Their main focus is on bouldering and they have a wide range of different types of climbs to choose from. Changed regularly to keep the variation in challenges. Staff are very friendly and helpful, a lot of experienced climbers in their ranks to help with any problem. The cafe on site is also excellent, not a wide range of food, but what they do have is excellent, cakes, pizza and toasties. Fresh coffee, soft drinks and beer on tap too.
Very good climbing centre. There’s a massive area dedicated to bouldering, plus other nice to haves such as training boards and autobelays. The setting was good although I’ve experienced better. The setting possibly relied too much on grip strength and upper body compared to other bouldering gyms. It’s my personal preference but I prefer crimps, balancing, footwork and technical slab type climbs compared to most of what was available here. Maybe I’m just a worse climber than I thought I was. I will say that the grading felt very harsh at times— I spoke to the guy at the front desk and he said it was “accurate” which I thought was funny. All in all good experience. Staff were great and the facilities are excellent. Well priced too.
Having visited many climbing gyms this is one of my favourites. What I really loved about this is the way the chill out spaces are everywhere. The climbing was really fun with some creative route setting. You can tell there is thought put into the routes which is nice. The staff were super friendly and welcoming and the coffee is fantastic! There is a good range of climbs to try and it's really nice enjoying food and a coffee and watching people climb. I'd highly recommend checking this place out. The vibe is super chilled and friendly which makes it easy to stay for an evening as time flies by. Tried the Kilter board which I haven't seen in a gym before which you can change the angle on from 0 to 70 degrees. There is a lovely roof section also I want to try when I am back with a sloped floor so you don't fall very far.
