Great selection of wine, beer, and drinks accessories. The staff is very friendly and helpful, whether you're looking for something specific or asking for recommendations. And the prices are lowest around.
On Saturday November 8, 2025 around 6:50pm my sister and I (African Americans ) entered total wine located in Durham, NC. We selected two wine beverages and headed to the counter. Immediately the sales associate asked for both of our identification cards. My sister realized she didn’t have her physical copy but had a photo in her phone. The sales associate declined to use the photo copy. My sister and I left the store to get her physical copy. We arrived back at total wine about 5 minutes later and selected the same beverages and got in line behind a Caucasian gentleman. There was a different sales associate at the register this time. Me and my sister both observed the customer being greeted and asked “are you a rewards member “ to which he replied no. He paid for his items and exited the store. As soon as me and my sister approached the register we were again asked for our identification cards. The Caucasian gentleman before us was not asked. I asked the sales associate why were we asked and the gentleman before wasn’t. To which she didn’t have an answer for. I explained to her how we had to leave to get my sisters i.d and she didn’t once ask the caucasian gentleman for his. I asked was the reason because me and my sister were two African American females, again no response. Instead she paged a manger for “back up”. Two other employees (one of which was the original sales associate )approached the register and I explained my concern. Again, I asked what was the difference. Her response was “sometimes we ask people who look younger”. From my understanding the law says everyone should show I.d when purchasing alcohol. Not those who appear younger. No apology was given. The manger even chuckled while I explained my frustration. This should have never happened!
I really enjoyed my visit, staff was friendly and ready to help and offer suggestions! The craft beer selection had some great options, and while it was more limited than I’m used to from Total Wine & More in another state, there were still plenty of unique choices to explore. I did notice a strong assortment of THC-infused drinks, which reflects thoughtful variety—great if that’s your thing, and there were plenty of other interesting options to balance it. It’s always a treat to browse the aisles for new finds, and this trip did not disappoint. Looking forward to coming back and discovering more gems.
I went to Total Wine looking for a Saint-Emilion. Aaron was sent to me, to advise me about my purchase. Fortunately, sometimes you meet in this country people that are really fulgurant. Like Wow! This person really knows something about art or about French literature etc... This guy really knows his shit about wines! As he was describing the different wines, I could literally taste them in my mouth. And he moved with the same elegance to describing Belgian beers.
The price and the selection is amazing. I got 4 bottle on my first visit. The agent was super helpful
