I visited Vaccaro yesterday with my family. Honestly, as a shop, it has nothing truly Italian about it. We ordered two cannoli and some gelato. The cannoli were fresh, but had a strong fried oil taste, which was unpleasant. The gelato was the worst part: I chose hazelnut and chocolate, but both were full of marshmallows and the hazelnut flavor was almost nonexistent. After eating it, I didn’t feel well. The display case was very dirty and the gelato flavors were mixed together, giving an impression of poor care and cleanliness. As an Italian, I did not appreciate the food and would not recommend this place to anyone looking for quality or authentic Italian flavors.
We had the eclair, cannoli and a chocolate dipped cannoli with chocolate filling. All very yummy. The ganache on the eclair was so rich and chocolatey. Quality flavors but not quite top top notch. We will stop by again.
Stopped by here earlier this afternoon for initially what I thought would be a sfogliatelle. However at $6.35 for each one, the price was just way too high. So, looking for lunch still, I settled on a traditional muffuletta for $12.50. For the price, I was content! There was a ton of meat, as well as hot olive tamponnade. On the whole, the savory options were well priced, but the desserts are just too expensive. Also, having to put up with table service just to have a place to eat was kind of annoying; the place was empty and the servers were sorting around. I might come back if I am back in Baltimore.
Man, this place used to be so good years ago. I used to come here all the time, and the pastries were fresh, the place felt clean, and everything tasted amazing. I don’t know what happened with the ownership, but it’s really gone downhill. The Napoleon cake I got was old and soggy, and the cream tasted off. The panini press looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in forever, straight-up grimey. Even the ice cream was a bit melted, like the freezer wasn’t doing its job. The whole place just doesn’t have that same care it used to. Really disappointing to see a spot I used to love fall off like this.
I heard great things about this place and had to stop in to grab my very own cannoli. It did not disappoint. It was delicious. The bakery had a few tables and chairs with a great selection of Italian cookies and desserts as well as ice cream. I only picked up my cannoli to go, but it was a great stop in Baltimore.
