3-day courses start on Wednesday at 4pm and end on Sunday at 9am, which requires employed professionals like me to take 3 days off work. After already struggling to get two days of leave approved, I tried to politely alert that I'd be driving for 4 hours after work and that I'd make every effort to be on time, but there'd be *a chance* I *might* be late if unexpected circumstances would present during the long drive. As a reply, my booking was cancelled without appeal. I was told to "apply again when my professional circumstances will allow me to participate to the course in full". I understand people are expected to take the course commitments seriously, but preemptively refusing returning students who tried to be transparent because they might miss a few minutes of orientation is honestly a form of gatekeeping towards people who don't have the privilege of unlimited flexibility with their time. For a community that preaches compassion, this to me registers as a bit hypocritical.

I had been thinking about doing the 10 day Vipassana course for years and I finally made the commitment to join in November. As so many people expressed on here, it is worth it and I have no regrets. I will admit that I found the experience very challenging, both on my mind and body. It is a lot of work - this is not a relaxed retreat and they make that very clear. The hours are long and there's emphasis on the importance of discipline, which was lacking in my life at the time and I appreciated the reminder. Despite the challenges, at no point did I want to quit. I trusted the process and the journey and I'm so grateful to the lovely volunteers and teachers for this experience. I'm also very thankful for the lovely meditators and new friends I made along the way. An old student's advice prior to taking the course was to be compassionate with myself, and I will pass that advice along to anyone who needs to hear that as it definitely helped me during the most difficult periods. I was placed in a private room and I found the accommodations clean, comfortable and the meals are hearty and delicious The outdoors are truly breathtaking - especially when you have no distractions and can really take in nature, the beautiful manzanita trees, the surrounding mountains, the pond, and wildlife around the facility. My favorite was seeing the starlit night sky every night and every morning before sunrise. A few suggestions: pack clean flip flops so you can wear them indoors/communal shower. Bring warm blankets, for sleeping and/or during meditation sits. If you have space, I also recommend you bring your own pillow however they do provide one in your room. There are no washer/dryers available during the course so bring enough clean clothes to last for the duration of your stay. Or you can hand wash a few items and hang them out on the clothes line to dry, weather permitting. I also brought my thermos, which was very practical. For electric vehicles, I suggest that you charge your car as much as possible before entering the center since they do not have fastchargers available yet. I hope that my review helps someone make their decision and wish you well on your journey:)

Place is pure magic! Great staff, great teachers & great facility dedicated to furthering one’s practice. Suggest showing up a day or two early & staying on for an additional day or two in order to donate your time and efforts at deep cleanings and projects. Much Mehta!!

Wonderful & challenging 10 days of learning a new practice of meditation. The campus is absolutely beautiful & the staff was so very helpful throughout. It was nice to catch snow in March and rejoice at the end of the time there. Headed to Yosemite afterwards for a couple weeks for re entry to the world🤘🏻🙏🤗🌲
