Delicious pastries! I tried 5 different things, all of which were fantastic. Not overly sweet. A highlight was the plain scone - again, not sweet. It paired very well with an americano I ordered at a cafe nearby. I also really liked the plain welsh cake. The pistachio one was good, just more of a dessert treat, alongside the jam and cream one. The plain felt more adjacent to the plain scone. There were many options and I’d definitely go back to try more if I was in town longer.
I took welsh cake raspberry and Rhubarb cake, bread pudding. Bread pudding of this type was something new for me and I did not like it, welsh cake was okay. The raspberry and rhubarb was delicious. Worth a try when in the market. There was a huge queue but it moved very fast, service was nice
One thing I miss about growing up in Cardiff is the Welsh cakes. The first thing I do when I get back to Cardiff is hit the market to get some. It's been a long time since I was able to visit home so when I finally made it 2 weeks ago I hit the market. I don't recall Cardiff Bakestones being in the market last time I was there, they could have been and I missed it, but no missing this time! The line up was huge which tells you everything. And it was worth the wait (which wasn't very long). Bought enough Welshcakes that we could enjoy them in Cardiff and bring a lot home to Canada which we did. Also ended up buying thr large Welsh cake filled with jam and cream (a must do!) and break pudding which I haven't had for ever. We're down to the last 3 Welshcakes (and rationing) and haven't stopped telling people about the jam filled one. My wife hasn't forgiven me for eating all the bread pudding but it was just like my Mum's so I can't be expected to not eat it all! If there was a way to have them sent to Canada I'd have a standing order! We'll be back because its absolutely worth it!
Moved back Cardiff and first time try Bakestone, before that i dont know it called welsh cakes but tried already. This one more fresh and more different flavours. I picked Traditional Fruit,Jam & cream,Plain,Salted Caramel,Bueno Welsh,Lemon Curd total 8pieces. And took it back to home, a bit cold already but mircowave 15-20sec that so good. I only ate 5piece today and left 3 for tomorrow lunch. Hope still same tasty. Overall, reasonable price and delicious. p.s. i reached market before 10:30 Sat that not so many people wait & done quick.
Really lovely Welsh cakes. Lots of different flavours and some with filling. We had coconut, chocolate and pistachio, lemon, and jam. You could watch the cakes being made which was fun. They had other cakes too, which we didn't try, but looked lovely - the fact I didn't buy a rock cake will haunt me for a long time ... !
