We went to lunch at Chins Szechwan with a party of 3. Greeted immediately and seated right away. Moderately crowded in a nicely decorated restaurant. It is not really large but can seat a good amount of patrons. The service was very good and they checked back often. Their environment is very clean to include their bathrooms. It seems to encompass the cuisine for a Chinese and or Szechuan menu. You can order cuisine a variety of ways to your choice. We had the A La Mandarin beef w/ mushrooms served with fried brown rice and egg roll with a pork dumpling. Large portion and very good. We also had the Mongolian beef with rice and green beans. It also had the egg roll and a pork dumpling. Again large portion and very good. It is a level above PF Chang's for instance. All dishes can be set to your heat or hot taste. The Tangerine Shrimp with broccoli and peppers was outstanding and large portion again. We had the large lo mein to share. Excellent flavor. No small portions here. You order the main entree and they complete the platter for you. They do it well and come hungry. Definitely original and quality food all around. They serve a solid selection of wine and beers for all tastes. The service is very quick from order to table. Your not waiting your eating!!. Fortune cookies and very reasonable pricing. The staff is pleasant and helpful. They don't rush you in any way. You pay at the table on a hand held device. Highly recommend for lunch or dinner.
Ate here on a lazy Saturday at lunch. No wait to get in. Service was a bit slow as it was about 15mins before our order was taken. We ordered the Mapo Tofu and the Hot and Sour soup. The soup was great. Large shareable portions for each. The Mapo Tofu was just alright. Not as flavorful as versions I have had in the past. Interior was clean. Esthetic was elevated Chinese spot. Overall, everything about this place was good. Not great, but good. Prices were decent given the large splittable portions. If you are in the Point Loma area and craving Chinese, Chin’s will hit the spot.
Solid Chinese lunch specials with generous portions We recently had lunch at Chin’s Restaurant and ordered the Kung Pao Chicken, Szechuan Garlic Chicken, Chicken Fried Rice, and Chicken Lo Mein as part of their lunch specials. Each lunch special came with hot and sour soup, plus one chicken dumpling and one spring roll, which was a nice bonus and made the meal feel like a great value. The soup was warming and flavorful without being overly sour or spicy. The Kung Pao Chicken was well-balanced with tender chicken, crunchy peanuts, and vegetables, delivering just the right amount of heat. The Szechuan Garlic Chicken had a bold, garlicky sauce that paired especially well with the fried rice. Both the Chicken Fried Rice and Chicken Lo Mein were solid—good texture, not greasy, and generously portioned. The lo mein was savory and comforting, while the fried rice was fluffy and satisfying. Portions were generous, perfect for sharing, and the small touches like pickled cucumbers and orange slices rounded out the plates nicely. Service was quick and friendly, and the atmosphere was relaxed and family-friendly. Overall, excellent value for lunch, reliable flavors, and comforting Chinese food done right. We’d definitely come back.
I loved this place. The atmosphere is so lovely and peaceful. Everything is very detailed and clean. The staff is very formally dressed and don't give much information when you ask them something, but they are friendly. The food was absolutely delicious and fresh, and the vegetables were perfectly cooked. I will definitely return to this place.
My thoughts on Chin’s. Food: the food was good but didn’t blow me away. I think that the only world I can use for it is “good.” The Mongolian beef was very tasty and I liked it a lot but they put so much onion in the dish that there was hardly any beef. I ordered a veggie, scallop, and shrimp dish and while it was good it was evident that nothing was particularly hard to make and the shrimp was frozen before they cooked it. So paying $25 ish dollars for an entree when the food wasn’t amazing left me feeling slightly bitter. Service: The staff all wore button up shirts with a black tie, which made me feel like I was underdressed. Other than that it was amazing, the staff was quick and professional. Atmosphere: Chin’s atmosphere is hard to beat. I was pleasantly surprised and impressed at the attention to detail to each and every part of this restaurant. I will say that it felt slightly more upscale than I was expecting.
