Honshu Sushi in Jersey City delivered a really solid experience. I stopped in with coworkers and walked out impressed. The restaurant itself is a good size with a clean, modern bar area and a solid ambience that makes it easy to settle in and enjoy the meal. The service is friendly and attentive without feeling overbearing, and the food comes out in a reasonable amount of time. The a la carte sushi was on point. Everything tasted fresh and clean, with a good mix of the basics like tuna, salmon, and yellowtail, plus more unique cuts like uni, botan ebi, king salmon, and Hokkaido scallop. The uni from Maine was perfectly chilled, sweet, and creamy. The botan ebi had a great briny flavor, and the clam was light with a subtle sweetness that surprised me. If I had to nitpick, the salmon could be sliced a bit thicker, and I wish they used fresh wasabi root instead of the usual paste. Even so, the quality and pricing are very reasonable, especially for Jersey City. Overall, Honshu is a great spot for sushi, and I would happily come back the next time I am in the area.
Absolutely amazing sushi!! The sashimi appetizer and spicy tuna tartare were amazing and I wish I had taken a picture. The rolls were so good! We got the (top to bottom) New Jersey, White Pearl, Crazy Tuna, Honshu (and more New Jersey). I think I'm remembering those names right. We also had some non-sushi eaters in our party. They recommend the edamame and say the cooked fish is delicious too 😜
So glad we found a great restaurant nearby! We went for Friday lunch for the first time and didn’t expect anything extraordinary, but we were pleasantly surprised. The quality of the food was spot-on, especially considering the price. We really enjoyed it! The tuna sushi, sashimi, and rolls were amazing, and the tempura was also excellent. We’ll definitely be back for dinner and plan to visit more often. Highly recommend!
I've always loved this place and like to order takeout often. In my opinion, Honshu has the freshest sushi in Jersey City. I haven't dined in since 2020 but decided to come in for lunch before work and am so glad I did. The service was kind and attentive, without being intrusive. It was a beautiful day today and I sat outside enjoying the fresh air, quiet seating and the nice jazzy background music. I appreciated Teresa, my server, making my lunch special. Get the iced tea!!! I look forward to coming in for an omakase experience soon. Thank you Honshu!
A lovely comfy dinner spot next to the riverfront/Exchange. We went for Saturday dinner, it wasn’t too busy. They had both indoor and outdoor seating. The restaurant has nice decor and ambience. The menu is decent, not overwhelming, bunch of appetizers, sushi rolls and few other entrees. Among appetizers, grilled calamari was good, jumbo scallops, miso soup and eggplant were excellent. The Tokyo roll was amazing, but Godzilla and Montgomery rolls were okay for me. My friend loves their tuna tar tar. The katsu don were nice fulfilling dish as well. Service is good. Food in prepared in a decent time. Sushi rolls are colorful and presented nicely. But for the price, it is not as extravagant as upscale Japanese restaurant.
