Bad staff attitude. I gave my Vietnamese ID card but refused even though I was still eligible. At the same time yelled at my parents.
John had a very rude attitude. When I asked him for his manager’s contact information, he told me that he finishes work at 3:00 PM and refused to assist further. There was no place or channel available for me to file a complaint. Staff management and training must be strengthened. I came all the way from Western Australia, and this is the first time I’ve encountered such a situation.
The security guard was weirdly creepy. He was an older gentlemen with grey hair but soon after we entered the shop, he came and stood by me and my friend stared at us while we were looking at the fridges and when I turned towards him, he quickly turned around and pretended to be going through the bottles in the fridges. We were only taking bottles out of the fridge?? Then while we were paying, he was peering through the shop windows to stare at other customers by the fridges and kept leaving the entrance of the shop. Not claiming to know how do his job, but it was very creepy and off putting. He was also very condescending when flicking his fingers at me while I was struggling to take my ID out of my phone with 2 bags of shopping too.
The security guards here and staff are power trippers when it comes to ID. There’s no excuse for their attitude towards it. I am 36 years old and have worked both in hospitality as well as in an IGA bottle shop in my early 20s. I understand the importance of asking for ID but this place takes it to the next level (as other reviewers have mentioned) I came in here last week with a friend to buy some wine for a dinner party I was hosting that evening. I’m 36 years old. My friend I was with is 37. We were denied service because my friend didn’t have her ID on her…. She wasn’t even buying any alcohol. Just me. I, at 36 years old was not allowed to buy 4 bottles of wine because my 37 year old friend, over twice the legal age didn’t have her ID. As much as I’d love to say we both look under 25, we do not. Neither of us could honestly remember the last time either of us got asked for ID… either In a bottle shop or a bar. There is NO way either of us looked under 25, and it was clear the security guard (older white guy with grey/ white hair) was as on a power trip. I got chatting. To a colleague about what happened and she mentioned a similar thing happened to her. 33 years old and she didn’t have her ID as she never got asked for it so didn’t think to bring it out. Yet was turned away. As I’ve said I understand the importance of asking for ID but the staff here and security guards are blatantly doing this as a power tripping exercise. Other reviewers have said they are 40+ years of age and have been asked for ID. It’s just ridiculous.
